Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need A Referral?

No! PA law allows you to see a direct access physical therapist for up to 30 days prior to needing to obtain a referral. Unfortunately for Federal payers, including Medicare and Tricare a referral is still required, but can come from any physician of your choice. We will work with you on getting all of the required paperwork to get you started on the journey to a speedy recovery.

What will the first appointment be like?

The first appointment, or the initial evaluation will involve a 1:1 session with a trained physical therapist. Together you will discuss your individual problem, assess what structures and movements are painful, and come up with a plan to address the reason you came to PT. This may include things like education, home exercises and manual treatment.

What should I wear?

As physical therapists, we are experts in human movement, and therefore do need to see and have access to the areas we will be treating. Therefore, if you are coming for a back, hip, knee or foot/ankle issue please wear or bring shorts with you. For the upper body, including neck, shoulder and elbow please wear short sleeves or a tank top. We occasionally may ask you to wear a gown in order to provide the highest level of care.

How long will my appointment last?

The first visit will last approximately 1 hour, with follow up visits lasting about 45-60 minutes. We do our best to meet each client’s schedule and time demands.

How often do I need to come to PT?

This is specific to each patient, but is usually 1-2 times per week throughout the course of care. However we do take every clients unique situation into consideration, and make a plan to fit their needs. We will do our best to work with each individual client’s time and financial needs.

How long will PT take to help?

This is highly variable for each patient and condition. However, we expect you to start noticing a difference within the first few sessions. Physical therapy is a process that requires changes to body tissue and movement patterns to take place over time and is therefore not a quick fix. However, it is a more complete fix that doesn't involve surgery or medication with questionable results and side effects.

What will occur at follow up visits?

Each visit you will work with your primary physical therapist and their highly trained physical therapist’s assistants to assess how you have been progressing and review home exercises. Sessions will consist of manual therapy and exercise that is prescribed individually for you by your physical therapist after assessing your condition at the initial evaluation and each subsequent visit.

Can I choose where I go to PT?

Yes! It is always your choice for where you want to receive PT. Your physician can make recommendations, but cannot dictate where you go. We encourage you to research and ask around prior to making a decision! As with anything else, not all physical therapists are the same.

How do I choose a physical therapist and clinic?

There are many options to consider when choosing a physical therapist including:

Experience: David has over 30 years of experience in treating patients in an outpatient, orthopedic setting. In combination with his experience are countless hours of continuing education to ensure he is providing high quality, cutting edge care.

Specialty: Peter is both an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedics and Manual Physical Therapy, an honor less than 5% of physical therapists will achieve throughout their career. Both of these involve years of specialized training and testing for orthopaedic conditions to provide the most up to date treatments and outcomes.

Consistency: You will work with you primary physical therapist at every visit, along with a team of expert assistants, rather than seeing a new therapist at every visit.

Atmosphere: The power of positivity can have as much of an impact on your health as the treatments provided. All of our staff is friendly and encouraging and will provide a positive experience focused on you.

Word of mouth: We encourage you to ask around from both friends, family and other healthcare practitioners. We would bet we have had the privilege of treating someone you know. Talk to them about our clinic and others to learn the difference in the level of care we can provide.

What makes you different?

As a private practice, our primary focus is on you as the patient. As both the owners and primary physical therapists, we stake our reputation on every client we contact throughout their entire experience. For many physical therapists, treating patients is just a job. However, for us it is a career and a passion that motivates us to provide Physical Therapy….As it was meant to be.

Don’t I need an x-ray or MRI first?

No! Imaging can be very costly and often times does not help with your course of care. In fact, many abnormalities found on imaging are normal, and do not contribute to your pain experience. We complete a thorough evaluation to assess the underlying reasons for your pain and limitations with a treatment plan based on these findings. Plus, a physical therapist is highly trained to understand when imaging may be required and refer you to the appropriate specialist if and when necessary.
